Mc Gregor becomes a legend 14-11-16

Conor McGregor became the UFC's first simultaneous two-weight champion after he knocked out Eddie Alvarez in the second round of their UFC 205 main event, with the Irishman adding the lightweight title to the featherweight championship he already held.
Alvarez, 28-5, started the contest with a series of leg kicks in an attempt to restrict the challenger's movement.
But moments later, McGregor sent him crashing to the canvas with a huge left hand.
McGregor, who went into the bout fresh off his UFC 202 win over Nate Diaz, swarmed the champion but he couldn't finish the Philadelphia native.
Alvarez was rocked and found himself on his back again as McGregor landed yet another huge left hand.
It soon became apparent that McGregor could land his trademark shot at will and he did so yet again a few moments later.
A bewildered Alvarez recovered but was visibly shaken from the three brutal shots he ate.
'The Underground King' looked like a shadow of the fighter that claimed the lightweight title in the summer and was very tentative.
The open stages of the second round saw Alvarez eat more left hands as he tried to close the distance and land a takedown.
McGregor began landing at will and even took the time to taunt his foe by putting his hands behind his back.
A frustrated Alvarez jumped in to try and nail McGregor with a huge right and ended up getting cracked with another counter left.
A brutal one-two combination followed before referee John McCarthy stepped in and called an end to the contest, an act which confirmed McGregor's status as a UFC legend.
When asked if he was surprised by the manner of his victory, a delighted McGregor said: "Not one bit. They're not on my level.
Could Connor go for three world titles or will him having a child force him to calm down or to quit I think that he has to make his legend even greater so when he eventually retires people again will remember the country of Ireland for creating another legend of world sport in Connor Mc Gregor but someone will get 2 weights in the near future you can be sure of that

carl frampton boxing legend

Former IBF/WBA super-bantamweight king Frampton can become the first Northern Ireland boxer to win world titles at two different weights by dethroning WBA World featherweight champion Leo Santa Cruz in a mouth-watering showdown.
To become the legend he wants to be he has 2 different options one is to take the re match and build up your following like that another is to unify this weight and try to go a weight heavier but you do not know what way you will be seen until he retires.

I think that Carl Frampton is one of the great lightweight boxers of all time and if he is not seen as that I will be very disappointed.

MY DAY IN NEWCASTLE 18-4-16

I went to Newcastle to see my great aunt. I went to see both rugby and football matches that happened on Saturday and Sunday. I had to get up early to go to Newcastle but I was happy and the airport was quick enough. When we got across we went for something to eat. Then we went back to her house and probably the worst internet I had seen since the mid-90s. After I watched the snooker and some children’s TV. We then went to her daughter’s houses house and her grandchild was very nice and the other one was into computers in a big way he did talk to me though and was happy to do so. We then went off to St James Park and sat beside a fan that was very strong in his views. We were right behind the goal and I could clearly see the first goal.   I liked the man who took me there as he was a strong Newcastle Fan.

Newcastle 3-0 Swansea

LASCELLES GOAL GIVES TOON REAL HOPE

Jamaal Lascelles headed in from a corner to put Newcastle in front towards the end of an edgy first half.

Ashley Williams and Jefferson Montero missed chances as the Swans dominated after the break, but Moussa Sissoko and Andros Townsend struck late goals.

Newcastle to me are back in the race to avoid relegation as they are 3 points behind with a game in hand but that game in hand is against man city.

There was a long drive home before I got in and watched my Saturday night programs I was no distraction for the night we had a pizza that was massive in size and would have wanted to have seen it at a different time both the ladies must have had to lift it.

On Sunday morning I got up early and could not go back to sleep so I watched some children’s TV and snooker before going to an Irish pub to watch the old firm derby there were 2 bars and both were filled to capacity. I had to stand to watch the game and I was happy enough and had to move so others to see. I liked when I was given the drinks and the crowd was very loud. I talked to more people from Glasgow that actual Irish people there was not a Ger in sight.

Rangers 2-2 Celtic

Rangers win on penalties

BROWN MISSES VITAL PENALTY FOR CELTIC

Tom Rogic, who levelled in extra time for Celtic, missed the vital spot-kick, blazing high and wide.

Rangers striker Kenny Miller fired in the opening goal, with Celtic replying through an Erik Sviatchenko header.

A wonderful long-range strike from Barrie McKay had Rangers in front on 96 minutes before Rogic swept home to set up a tense Hampden shootout

James Tavernier and Nicky Clark failed to convert from the spot for Rangers, while Callum McGregor and captain Scott Brown could not hit the target for Celtic before Rogic's miss made it 5-4 on penalties to the Championship winners.

We then went straight to the rugby as there was no time for food as we sat in brilliant seets in the middle of the ground right beside a guy who could only say the words New- Cas- Tle his family must have some difficulty talking to him

Newcastle 3-6 London Irish
DELENY TRY SAVES NEWCASTLE FROM DROP

Greig Tonks had kicked them in front at Kingston Park, but Marcus Watson's try and penalties from Mike Delany and Juan Pablo Socino put Falcons 13-6 ahead.

One more win will secure their place in the top flight.

We then had food where I watched the snooker and then I went home to Treasas and I watched family fortunes and then we went back to the airport.

netball 01-2-16

SUPERLEAGUE NETBALL

The Thunder came from behind at half-time to win 57-48 away from home.

Elsewhere, Loughborough Lightning beat Surrey Storm 55-54 and Celtic Dragons suffered their fifth straight loss with a 65-45 home defeat against Team Bath.

Yorkshire Jets are the only other team without a win this season after losing 48-44 at Team Northumbria on Monday.

The 2014 champions Thunder trailed 26-24 at the break, but started the third quarter strongly. A 12-5 burst saw them take the lead and they held on for the victory.

Netball is a very entertain and a very fast game in which anything can happen. We all know that England must improve but like with other women’s sports to grow we need Irish, Scottish and Welsh netball to be seen this is one of the ways men have got a huge advantage over women still.

premiere league darts 5-1-16

PREMIERE LEAGUE DARTS RESULTS

Peter Wright 7-2 Michael Smith

Peter Wright the one with the mad hair showed a consistent performance to beat new boy Michael Smith . He does looik to be safe in the first round of fixtures but this does not look good for Smith

Michael van Gerwen 4-7 James Wade

MVG started badly and this would definitely be considered a good win for James Wade as we all thought Van Gerwin was the best in the world but maybe he hasn’t had the performances behind him to say this would be a good

Phil Taylor 2-7 Raymond van Barneveld

Taylo9r does not look to start well in this tournament either as RVB showed that he is one of the best in the league but his form does go up and down and more so than anyone else this is a disappointment. Phil will come back you would think.

Robert Thornton 0-7 Dave Chisnall

Robert Thornton had a disaster and knows that he must improve to get back into the race for anything this season

Adrian Lewis 7-1 Michael Smith

Adrian Lewis was able to get his premiere league season underway as Gary Anderson was a bit ill but I do not think that it should have been Smith in the fray in the first day as this adds to the pressure and as he probably won’t reach the top 8 there will be an event he probably won’t get the chance to go to,.

bdo darts finals 11-1-16

SCOTTY TO HOTTY FOR CANADIAN SMITH

England's Scott Waites thrashed unseeded Canadian Jeff Smith 7-1 to win the BDO World Championship at Lakeside for a second time.

The 38-year-old regained the title he first won in 2013 and is the eighth player to win the crown more than once.

Waites, a carpenter from Huddersfield, raced into a 5-0 lead.

Smith, 40, took the sixth set with a 161 checkout to spark hopes of a fightback, but Waites eased to a comfortable victory.

A fifth set followed for ninth seed Waites, again on a deciding leg, before Smith prevented what would have been a sixth whitewash in a BDO World Championship final with a 161 checkout to win the sixth.

But he missed four darts at double to take the seventh set.

Waites then stepped in with a 14-dart leg to restore his five-set lead, ending any danger of an unlikely comeback.

One of his final acts was to land a 156 checkout while his opponent was waiting on 49 to win the eighth set.

GULLIVER QUEEN OF THE LADIES

Trina Gulliver won the women's world title for a 10th time with a 3-2 victory over Deta Hedman in Saturday's all-English BDO final

The first four sets went against the throw, with number eight seed Gulliver, 46, winning the decider 3-0 to clinch the £12,000 first prize.

08-1-15 bdo darts

Men's second round (best of seven sets)

Richard Veenstra from the Netherlands had no problem in dismissing Englishman Martin Atkins by 4 seats to 0 and looks to be cruising to a semi-final spot

One of the great matches in recent times in the BDO where Scott Waites won in the 7th and final set as the match went to a tie breaker. This was an interesting win for Belgium De Vos as Belgium is not a country well known for its darts and he only lost out by one sett I find that to be an incredible fact.

In this all English tie we were more disappointed by how much world champion Scott Mitchell only won by one set as I don’t thi9nk that too many people had heard of Mark Mc Geeney before this time but Mitchell was a champion.

BDO MENS QUARTER FINAL DRAW

Wesley Harms (Ned) v Jamie Hughes (Eng)

Glen Durrant (Eng) v Scott Waites (Eng)

Jeff Smith (Can) v Dennis Harbour (Eng)

Scott Mitchell (Eng) v Richard Veenstra (Ned)

Women's quarter-finals (best of three sets)

Dutch darts player Aileen de Graaf from the Netherlands won a tight battle against Anca Zijlstra also from the Netherlands 2-1

Lorraine Winstanley wife of dean lost to fellow Englishwoman and legend of woman’s darts Deta Hedman

Dain Ann-Louise Peters managed to win a tight match against English lady Zoe Jones by 2 sets to 1

Another legend of woman’s darts Trina Gulliver beat fellow English woman Lisa Ashton by 2 sets to 1
The women's semi final draw is

Deta Hedman (Eng) v Ann-Louise Peters (Den)
Trina Gulliver (Eng) v Aileen De Graaf (Ned)

I think that it is wrong that in the biggest tournament of the year that women in a quarter final only play best of 3 sets you cannot get any sort of a rhythm of the game and I do think this has to change now

07-01-15 LEAGUE CUP SEMI

CITY HAVE WORK TO DO IN LEAGUE CUP SEMI

City looked to have secured a draw with 14 minutes left, when Jesus Navas finished a sweeping counter attack following brilliant work by Sergio Aguero.

That equaliser cancelled out Ramiro Funes Mori's opener for Everton on the stroke of half-time.

Argentine Funes Mori pounced after Willy Caballero saved Ross Barkley's shot - although City were nursing an understandable sense of injustice with Lukaku standing in an offside position in front of the keeper.

BDO WORLD DARTS CHAMPIONSHIPS

Wednesday, 6 January

Men's second round (best of seven sets)

Welshman Martin Phillips was a huge disappointment yesterday as he could only get one set against English qualifier Dennis Harbour. I was disappointed when Phillips did not get out of the blocks losing the first sets and I would have wanted Phillips to win to break the English/Dutch dominance. I did not see this coming so for me to predict who would win would be a lie. Harber went on to win by 4 sets to 1.

Jamie Hughes cruised into the second round with a 4-1 win over Latvian Madars Razma. Darts in Europe must be improving as we would not have saw a Latvian get this far before.

Jeff Smith became one of the surprise foreigners to reach the quarter finals Dawson must be disappointed as he3 could not get started in this match whatsoever and Canadian Smith took advantage of this poor start to the game.

American Larry Butlar became one of my favourites this year after getting through the qualifier and first round but just got pummelled out of the tournament by Englishman Glenn Durant

Welshman Jim Williams must have been majorly disappointed last night as he got beaten in a thriller to Dutchman Wesley Harms. Neither player deserved to lose this match but Harms was able to get that vital double to win the match.

Women's first round (best of three sets)

In the women’s first round Lorraine Winstanley wife of Dean Winstanley had an easy way of things in defeating Rachel Brooks by 2 sets to 0

06-01-15 semi final league cup stoke v liverpool

NARROW WIN GIVES LIVERPOOL SMALL ADVANTAGE

Ibe, on for Coutinho, struck at the far post in the 37th minute after clever build-up work by Adam Lallana and Joe Allen.

Stoke failed to reproduce the form that has brought them home wins against Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United in recent times and, when they did force an opening, Liverpool keeper Simon Mignolet saved well from Glen Johnson and Joselu.

Substitute Jon Walters wasted their best chance deep into stoppage time and Liverpool

Klopp's injury curse

After young Belgian striker Divock Origi went lame in the Boxing Day victory against Leicester City at Anfield, Klopp pointed out in colourful terms that "hamstring" was his least favourite word of 2015.

It is not shaping up any better in 2016 as Coutinho and Lovren both limped off clutching their hamstrings before half-time - adding to Liverpool's already lengthy injury list. They may be joined by Kolo Toure, who ended the game clutching the back of his right leg.

Liverpool have got the acts together in recent weeks and look like they are slowly improving but I do not think 1-0 is enough to assure a spot at Wembley. I do think this is a stabilising season for them this season. I think there are a couple of players they have to rely on going forward but as long as they are solid at the back they should be ok.

BDO WORLD DARTS CHAMPIONSHIPS

TUESDAY 5TH FEBRARY

MENS DRAW

Qualifier Kostas Pantelidis from Grease could not get a handle on first round darts as he got beating by quality Belgium Geert de Vos. De Vos had control at the start and never looked back from that point

Wesly Harms from the Netherlands had a boat of a battle to defeat qualifier Seigo Asada from Japan. This was a game that no one had control of at any given time of the match.

In an all English match Brian Dawsen won in an epic to John Watson 3-2 to move into the last 16.

One of the players that I like in a major way for the BDO championship purely because he sticks by them no matter what happens and will probably be the reason why the BDO will stand for another 10 years lost 3-0 to Canadian Jeff Smith. This to me says that Adams has a few things to sort out in his game going forward.

Englishman Mark McGeeney cruised through to the last 16 after beating Peter Sajwani from Sweden 3-0 and looks ok but this was a qualifier he played.

Englishman Gary Robson had a battle aginst  Madars Razma from Latvia 3-1 but does look to be one to watch out for going forward.

LAST 16 DRAW

Jim Williams (Eng) v Wesley Harms (Ned)

Larry Butler (Eng) v Glen Durrant (Eng)

Dennis Harbour (Eng) v Martin Phillips (Wal)

Jamie Hughes (Eng) v Madars Razma (Lat)

Brian Dawson (Eng) v Jeff Smith (Can)

Mark McGeeney (Eng) v Scott Mitchell (Eng)

Martin Atkins (Eng) v Richard Veenstra (Ned)

Scott Waites (Eng) v Geert De Vos (Bel)

WOMENS DRAW

English darts woman Zoe Jones defeated Tina Osborne from New Zealand 2-1 to go through to the quarter finals in the women’s draw

Legend of darts Deta Hedman from England had no problem with dismissing Aussie Corrine Hammond as it was a simple enough victory winning 2 sets to 0

BDO DARTS WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

Saturday, 2 January

Men's first round (best of five sets)

In the preliminary round on Saturday American Larry Butlar defeated James Hurrell 3-2 and considering his age reaching the first round would be considered a success.

Jeff Smith from Canada cruised through to the first round with a simple win over Mathew Medhurst from the Netherlands and he does look like an outside bet at this stage but you can only play the man in front of you.

Craig Caldwell from New Zealand found it particularly tricky to reach the first round as he managed to beat Andy Souter from Scotland and I am not sure what the darts talent in Scotland is like.

In the first round proper Glen Durant from England managed to beat Dean Renolds from Wales in a simple first round encounter and looks to be able to go deep in the draw

One of the big disappointments for me happened on Saturday when Tony O Shear the legend lost to Jim Williams from Wales. It was not the fact that he lost by how much he lost by 3-0. Tony looks to be going on a downward spiral

Dennis Harbour won a battle with Daryl Fitten one of the few darts players I would admit to liking.

Results

Sunday, 3 January

There seem to be a lot of prelim spots given to Englishmen and one was given to Sam Hewsen who could not compete with Sajwini from Sweden as the swede won by 3 sets

Ted Hankey cruised into the first round with a simple 3-0 win over Canadian David Cameroon and looks like he can compete with anyone of them

Kostas Pantelidis from Grease won a tight match against Darren Peetoom from England.

2 players not from Great Britain or the Netherlands played in a preliminary round as 2 completely unheard of players for me played as Japans Segio Asada beat Darius Labanauskas from Lithuania

In the first round Scott Wates from England beat Willem Mandigers 3-0 and is showing himself to be a real contender for the title

Scott Mitchell beat prelim winner Craig Caldwell in the first round 3-2 this to me is a worrying thing as the result was 3-2 and he is not the best of opponent as he had to through the qualifying round

Monday, 4 January

Australian Rob Moda cruised to a first round win after beating Englishman John Walton 3-0 in the prelim

This first round match was very interesting and could go either way as  Richard Veenstra beat Jeffrey de Graaf 3-2 in this all Dutch affair

Martin Atkins cruised into the second round with a 3-0 win over pip Blackwell in this all English match.

Qualifier Larry Butlar from the USA beat Ryan de Vreede from the Netherlands

Scot Ross Montgomery could not get started against Englishman Jamie Hughes as he lost 3-0

2 of the elder statesmen of the BDO Welshman Martin Phillips played ted Hanky from England. It was the Welshman

Women's first-round (best of three sets)

#Aileen de Graaf cruised to a 2-0 win over Casey Gallagher from England and neither player is that well known

For me the big disappointment was when Fallon Sherrock from England lost to Ann-Louise Peters from Denmark 2-1 as she is someone who could sell the sport to the masses

The legend that is Trina Gulliver from England was scared as she dropped a set to fellow Englishwoman Dee Bateman

One of the forces of Russian darts Anastasia Dobromyslova lost to  1-2 Anca Zijlstra from the Netherlands results like this don’t help women’s darts

In an all English tie Lisa Ashton beat Paula Jacklin 2-0

ANDERSON IS ABLE TO TAKE CONTROL TO WIN FINAL

Scotsman Gary Anderson played Adrian Lewis in the final of the PDC world darts championship last night and the match itself was very tight as both players had 3 sets after the first six sets. Anderson then broke in the 7th set before Lewis was able to get a set back before Anderson hit a double 12 to win by 7 sets to 5.

Anderson made a superb 170 in set 7.

His victory could have been easier had he not made three simple math errors.

At one stage, he had 50 left but bust his score by hitting a treble 20.

Despite averaging 99.26 to his opponent's 100.23, Anderson's greater accuracy on the doubles saw him lift the Sid Waddell Trophy for the second year in succession.

Anderson now joins English players Taylor and Lewis as well as Canadian John Part as the only players to have won the PDC world title twice.

pdc darts quarter final 01-01-15

NORRIS SHOCKED INTO SUBMISSION

Englishman Alan Norris had complete control of this match knowing that Dutch player Jelle Klassen was just a set behind him and looked to be in complete control going into the semi-final until a leg to win and Klassen just turned on the power to show an incredible last 2 sets and it was like there were 2 different people as Klassen just turned on the power winning 6 legs in a row to win 5-4.

WHERE WAS JAMES WADE

Gary Anderson from Scotland just seemed to do what he needed to do to win this match as Englishman James Wade did not even seem to start until the fourth set. Anderson was still able to motor to the semi final and it did seem like with his 105 average these 2 men were on different planets. Anderson won by 5 sets to 1
