IRELAND DISAPOINTED
BUT HYAVE BRILLIANT PREFORMANCE
NETHERLANDS 1-0 IRELAND
Jeroen Hertzberger's early goal gave the Netherlands a 1-0
win over an impressive Irish side in the EuroHockey Championships semi-finals
in London.
Hertzberger finished from close range on 12 minutes but
Ireland almost made an immediate response.
Mitch Darling's shot was pushed onto the post by keeper Jaap
Stockmann.
Ireland defended superbly in their first EuroHockey
semi-final appearance while the Netherlands progress to face Germany in the
decider.
It was always going to be a formidable task for the Irish,
sitting 12 places below the number two team in the world rankings.
Ireland now have to wait and see if Australia win the Oceania
qualifier if they do Ireland qualify but if they don’t the winning team will so
go team Australia this will be finished on the 25th of October.
ENGLAND WIN QUALIFER

ENGLAND 2-2 GERMANY
England men lost to Germany in the EuroHockey Championships
semi-final following a penalty shootout.
Mark Gleghorne gave England the lead, only for Martin
Zwicker to equalise and Lukas Windfeder to put Germany 2-1 up.
Ashley Jackson levelled at 2-2 with a penalty stroke with
one minute 50 seconds left, but Sam Ward's miss proved decisive as Germany won the
shootout 3-2 at the Olympic Park.
